MOORLAND MASONS ... by Frazer Irwin

"This poem was broadcast along with ‘Ethel,’ the poet's notorious car of the time, by BBC Look North, in 1984."

Oh windswept moor
What hold have you on Man.
Your time ravaged stones
Bear witness to the Mason's chisel.

What mysteries do you hold
In Cup and Ring,
In Swastica and
Standing stone.

Your rugged outcrops
Have not been missed
By the art of men in stone.

But still they come
And try to chisel,
Albeit not very far.
For times have changed
Or so they say,

For now the Mason is called
THE VANDAL
.
