"Inspiration for this verse came from a rather splendid Pub sign which was once erected outside the Wharfedale Gate Road house on Leeds Road, Ilkley. A pity its still not there today!"
A gate to Wharfedale's pastures green,
Her limestone pavements,
The village scene.
This rugged land
Of Grouse and sheep,
Has made so many tourists weep.
For the have passed this eating house,
Without a sign to it's where abouts.
But now a SIGN!
A master piece,
To ales and dales
And ample eats.
So now pray lift your glass,
Forget about the signless past,
Drink the health to man and boy,
In Wharfedale's pastures green.
