St Mary's is tucked away on the sharp bend going out of Burley, near the Malt Shovel Hotel, and the newly restored Village Green. There's been a church on this site for hundreds of years, but the present church is just 153 years old. Here is a picture of it (68K).
It's a thriving church, with around 150 people of all ages at our main service on Sunday mornings. We try to include the best of both the Catholic and Evangelical traditions in our worship, so there's usually something for all tastes in our worship. The music is usually led by our traditional male choir, but we have an orchestra and a mixed voice choir too - the best of all worlds!
Our Sunday services are at 8am [traditional prayer book Communion service], 9.45am [family communion service], and 6pm [a variety of services, sometimes evensong, sometimes a healing service]. We also have a communion service at 9.30am on Thursdays. The church is open every day for people to come and pray, or just enjoy the quiet.
If you'd like to contact us, we run an office in the village, at 43 Station Road. [Tel 01943 864405]. Everyone, church-goer or not is welcome to pop in for a coffee and a chat [we also do cheap phtocopying!]. It's open on Mondays and Wednesdays, 9am - 12.30pm, and Fridays 1.30pm - 5pm. From September, it'll be open every day.
The Vicar's name is the Revd Peter Sutcliffe, and his telephone number is 01943 863216. You can also contact him by e-mail, his address is peter.sutcliffe@btinternet.com
